Main Campus – From June 26th – 28th, 2024, the Directorate of E-Learning at KIU conducted a highly successful three-day intensive eLearning training program for staff. The program aimed at equipping staff with advanced methodologies and digital tools for enhancing online teaching capabilities.
The training, held at ICT Lab 4 Main Campus, provided comprehensive training on advanced e-learning methodologies and digital tools and also focused on creating interactive and immersive learning environments tailored to diverse learning needs.
The 3-Day training was facilitated by Dr. Victor Olubusayo, the Head of Department, Distance E-learning, Dr. Adewusi Michael Dean School of Mathematics and Computing, Dr. Michael Aruwaji, Mr. Oluwadamilare Jegede, and Mr. Emmanuel Lawani.
Led by the Director of E-Learning, Dr. Okwadi Joseph Micheal, the program emphasized comprehensive support for facilitators to deliver high-quality instruction and fostered active participation among participants.
The Director expressed heartfelt appreciation to the staff for their dedication to advancing online education, highlighting their pivotal role in ensuring the effectiveness and engagement of e-learning programs.
"We need to be confident in what we do," stated Dr. Okwadi.
In his presentation, Dr. Victor Olubusayo, the Head of Department, Distance E-Learning, emphasized the transformative potential of online and blended learning in today’s educational landscape.
Dr Olubusayo highlighted the key differences between online Universities in East Africa learning, which primarily relies on digital platforms and the internet, and traditional face-to-face instruction, which is characterized by physical classroom interactions.
"Blended learning provides exceptional flexibility and personalized educational opportunities by integrating traditional and digital methods. Its wide accessibility and cost-effectiveness greatly benefit learners from various geographical and socio-economic backgrounds," he said.
The event was graced by key university administrators including the University Secretary, Ms. Asiat Mbabazi, the Director of Higher Degrees and research (DHDR), Prof. Israel Obaroh, Director of Quality Assurance, Prof Lara Oluwaniyi, the Campus Administrator, Ms Christine Ainebyoona, Heads of Departments, representatives from Colleges and Schools, and administrators, affirming institutional support for ongoing advancements in e-learning.
Looking ahead, the Directorate of E-Learning plans to continue offering such training initiatives to further enhance educational outcomes through innovative digital solutions.
